Nature and the Great Outdoors
There are plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors in the Hilltops region.
The mighty Wyangala Dam is located at the northern end of the region and offers hiking and water sport opportunities.
For breathtaking views few could surpass Tout’s lookout near Monteagle village, which towers over farmland that stretches into the horizon. The nearby Weddin Mountains are an attractive destination for day trippers or campers with bird watching, bush walks and historic sights to please. A visit to the Koorawatha Falls is well worth the short trek (the falls are accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicles only).
Take to the Wanderer Drive linking Young, Harden and Boorowa, or the Scenic drive past Iandra Castle.
Fresh air, clear skies, abundant bird life and stunning gums: soak in the natural environment and spectacular landscapes that surround this regional centre.
The Hilltops Region is one of the most picturesque places in the state whatever the season, whether it’s paddocks dressed in the green and gold of canola and wheat crops, orchard blossoms and summer fruits, the autumn colours or pared back winter scenery. And they are all ideal for photographers.
