Boorowa: Situated east of Young the town is known for the “Running of the Sheep” event at its Irish Woolfest held in October and a pleasant half hour drive from Young.
Harden & Murrumburrah: Just a 30 minute drive from Young this centre has a rich gold mining history and is attributed as the birthplace of the Light Horse movement.
Grenfell: Poet and story teller Henry Lawson was born on the goldfields at Grenfell, which celebrates his life in the annual Henry Lawson Festival.
Iandra Castle: This ornate 57 room Edwardian mansion built on a large rural holing in 1908 is 30 minute drive from Young and evokes grand living from another era. Open for public viewing on occasions and private tours.
Cootamundra: Birthplace of Don Bradman, Cootamundra is a half hour drive from Young. Check out the Captains Walk in Jubilee Park and Bradman’s Birthplace in Adams Street.
Cowra: Situated on the Lachlan River north of Young. Cowra was the setting for the Japanese POW camp breakout in 1944. Visit the Japanese Gardens and Australia’s World Peace Bell.
Yass Valley: Explore the beautiful Yass Valley, half way between Canberra and Young. The town of Yass is famous for being the home of the explorer Hamilton Hume. Around Yass you'll find historic villages, great wineries and exploring trails.
